CNC
Machine Shop

Over 40 CNC machines sit in the same Coimbatore plant that pours the castings, so parts can leave Arasur fully machined, inspected and ready to fit.

Capability Overview

Why Machine Castings
at the Foundry?

Most castings leave a foundry raw and travel somewhere else to be machined. Ours do not have to. The machine shop opened in 2011 on the same site as the foundry at Arasur, Coimbatore, and now runs more than 40 CNC machines.

That matters for two practical reasons. Handling and freight between two sites disappear. And if a dimension drifts, the people who poured the casting and the people who machined it are in the same building, so the cause gets found faster.

The shop covers milling, turning, boring, gear shaping and dynamic balancing, with two Brown and Sharpe coordinate measuring machines for inspection. Fabrication, sub-assembly, load testing and primer painting sit alongside it.

Machine shop capacity is being expanded, with further machining centres due from August 2026.

How It Works

How Does a Casting
Move Through Machining?

Four stages, from drawing review to a part that is packed and ready to fit.

Drawing and Fixture Review

The part drawing is checked against the casting, then fixtures and the machining sequence are set before the first piece is cut.

First Article

The first piece is machined and measured on the CMM. Dimensions are signed off against the drawing before the batch is released.

Production Machining

The batch runs across the VMC, HMC, turning centre and VTL lines, with in-process checks at set frequencies.

Special Processes, Assembly and Dispatch

Gear shaping, dynamic balancing, fabrication, sub-assembly, load testing and primer painting are done as the part needs, followed by final inspection and packing.

Common Questions

Machine Shop
Questions Buyers Ask

Does Technocast machine its own castings?

Yes. The machine shop opened in 2011 on the same site as the foundry at Arasur, Coimbatore, and now runs more than 40 CNC machines. Castings can be supplied fully machined rather than as-cast.

How many CNC machines are in the machine shop?

Twenty vertical machining centres, four horizontal machining centres, five vertical turret lathes, thirteen turning centres and one vertical turn mill, plus gear shaping and dynamic balancing machines.

What is the largest part you can machine?

The vertical turn mill takes a 1,500 mm table with 1,750 mm cutting diameter and 1,100 mm working height. The largest horizontal machining centre gives 1,200 x 1,200 x 900 mm travels on an 800 x 800 mm pallet.

Do your machining centres have 4th and 5th axis?

All twenty vertical machining centres have a 4th axis and a through-coolant spindle. The MAG Specht 500X is a five-axis machine, and the Starrag IWK 5000 and Doosan DHM 800 are fitted with probing.

Can you cut gears?

Yes. A Fellows gear shaping machine from Vermont, USA cuts up to 500 mm diameter and 90 mm height.

Do you offer dynamic balancing?

Yes, on horizontal and vertical machines, for components up to 500 mm diameter and 300 mm length, balanced to an accuracy of 1 gram.

How are machined dimensions checked?

On two Brown and Sharpe coordinate measuring machines. One covers 700 x 1,000 x 700 mm with a touch probe; the other covers 1,500 x 1,200 x 1,000 mm with a scanning probe and gear profile testing.

Do you do fabrication and sheet work?

Yes. The fabrication shop covers TIG, MIG and arc welding, and two machines handle sheet perforation and forming up to 1,000 mm wide and 2 mm thick.

Can you supply assembled and tested parts?

Yes. Assembly runs at low and medium batch volumes and can include steel castings, rolled steel, forgings, brass, PTFE, stainless steel and rubber parts. Load testing is done to the customer requirement, and a 2,000 tonne hydraulic press is available.

Do you offer painting and coating?

Primer painting of machined castings is done in-house. ED coating, manganese phosphating, powder coating, zinc coating and galvanising are handled through approved outside processors.

Where is your CNC machine shop in Tamil Nadu?

At 127/3B, Sangothipalayam Road, Arasur, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu 641407, India, on the same site as the foundry. Plant visits and audits can be arranged through the contact page.
