Off-highway work is about one fifth of everything we pour. These are the driveline and chassis parts of tractors, material handling equipment and mining vehicles: axle housings and trumpets, wheel hubs and carriers, steering knuckles and yokes, brake and suspension brackets, transmission cases and counterweights.
Off-highway castings live under shock loading, mud, vibration and long duty cycles. The part has to be sound all the way through and dimensionally stable after machining. That is why most of this work runs on the Alpha-set No Bake line and the ARPA boxes, where the mould stays rigid and a thick section can be poured without risking shrinkage.
Approvals in this sector are held with tractor and off-highway equipment makers in India and Europe. Single pieces run to 1,500 kg on floor moulding at 2,000 x 2,000 x 700 mm, and parts can be supplied raw, machined, painted, fabricated or fully assembled and tested.

Stress relieving, normalising, annealing, hardening and tempering, and induction hardening are all done at Arasur. A heavy casting does not leave the site to be treated and come back distorted.
Vertical turn mill to 1,750 mm diameter, five vertical turret lathes, four horizontal machining centres including a five-axis, and a Fellows gear shaper to 500 mm. Big parts are finished here, not subcontracted.
Ultrasonic and magnetic particle inspection in house, pressure testing on housings, and load testing on a 2,000 tonne hydraulic press to your specification.

Applications
Six part families we run regularly for tractor, material handling and mining vehicle builders.
Long, cored ductile iron housings where wall thickness has to stay even and the bore has to stay straight after heat treatment. Usually No Bake moulded and machined complete.
Hubs, planet carriers and drum carriers that take wheel load and braking torque. Machined on the VTLs and balanced where the drawing calls for it.
Ductile iron or cast steel parts under shock and fatigue loading, ultrasonically checked for internal soundness before machining.
Medium-weight brackets in volume, where hole positions decide whether the part fits on the assembly line.
Cased and cored parts that must be pressure tight and dimensionally stable. Pressure tested after machining where specified.
Heavy grey iron sections up to 1,500 kg, floor moulded, then painted or fabricated into a sub-assembly.
Quality Gates
Six checks between the furnace and the packing bay. A part that fails one does not move to the next.
Every heat is read on an ARL spectrometer before pouring, and the result is recorded against the batch.
Ductile iron is checked by ultrasonic velocity, then confirmed under a microscope with image analyser for graphite shape and count.
Tensile strength, elongation and hardness are tested on samples poured from the same heat as your parts.
Large parts are measured on the 1,500 x 1,200 x 1,000 mm Brown and Sharpe coordinate measuring machine with a scanning probe.
Ultrasonic and magnetic particle inspection in house. Radiographic inspection through an accredited partner when the drawing calls for it.
Pressure or load testing where specified, then paint, packing and the documentation pack for your incoming inspection.
